Before there were smart phones, there were iPods – little devices that, as Steve Jobs boasted when he introduced them, allowed you to carry 1000 songs in your pocket, something unheard of until then. In 2008, Ian Fraser, our former minister, ran a summer sermon series entitled The jPod. He invited people to submit suggestions for what they thought Jesus should put on his iPod to understand the human condition in our era and then used the songs as a basis for his sermons. This fall, Ian is proposing a discussion group entitled, “The jPod Updated”. Since the first series, society has changed and so have we with different concerns and questions, often reflected in popular music.
Discussions will begin next Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 PM. Ian will be choosing the songs that we will listen to together, then invite us to integrate music with poetry and scripture as a basis for conversation.
Here are the themes for each week:
October 13 – Growing Older
October 20 – Growing Younger
November 03 – Living with Loss
November 10 – Change – The Only Constant We Can Count On
November 17 – Hope in a Time of Despair
All are welcome!
